BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The city of Cocoa has 42 pieces of property it plans to sell to a developer or nonprofit to build affordable housing for working families.

There are roughly 20 vacant lots near Stone Street, known as the Michael C. lake subdivision.

The land was purchased by the city in 2016. Now, it is one of the vacant properties the city hopes to transform into new homes.

“We will work with each developer to entice them to get the property and build affordable housing,” City of Cocoa Public Information Officer Samantha Senger said. “Whether that is waiving fees to reduce costs to build the homes to make them more affordable it will depend on each property.”

The City of Cocoa said a number of developers have already shown an interest in building affordable housing.
