SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — After the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved the Pfizer vaccine for 12 to 15 year olds, Seminole County jumped into action, becoming one of the first counties to start offering the vaccine.

Fourteen-year-old Xavier Munoz said he has barely left the house, instead spending most of the school year at home.

“You know I’ve been doing connect, so I finally want to go back to school.” Munoz said.

Today he became one of the first kids his age to get the first shot of the Pfizer vaccine at the Oviedo Mall.

“I feel like it’s important to get your shot so it prevents you from COVID,” he said.

Seminole County had been offering about 200 vaccination appointments a day, with many of those slots going unfilled.

With the new age group being added, the county has now increased that number to 800 appointments.

Steven Lerner with Seminole County Emergency Management says there are still plenty of vaccination appointments available.

“We still have appointments available today and into the weekend, so we will be open Friday and Saturday,” Lerner said.

The county says it is working on getting mobile vaccination pods to area high schools to better accommodate students.
