ORLANDO, Fla. — Channel 9 Eyewitness News This Morning anchor Nancy Alvarez signed off Wednesday to begin a new role at Heart of Florida United Way.
“This move was years in the making for me. One of the biggest motivators: The families I’ve met through thousands of stories I’ve told who thrive when they are seen, heard and helped,” Alvarez said.

In the past 11 years, she has covered hurricanes, the Pulse nightclub massacre and Pope Benedict XVI’s 2015 visit to the United States.

Alvarez also traveled to Puerto Rico many times, reporting on the damage and recovery efforts after Hurricane Maria.
She will join the Heart of Florida United Way as the senior vice president of community relations and equity impact.

Alvarez will be responsible for directly engaging underserved populations, with the goal of increasing awareness of the organization’s programs.
Alvarez said she has many more stories to share and some will even be featured on Channel 9.
