Central Florida school districts issue weather alert for possible dismissal delays

ORLANDO, Fla. — School districts around Central Florida have issued a weather alert over the threat of severe storms Thursday afternoon.

Schools in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Volusia, Polk and Marion counties have all used weather alerts to warn parents of the possibility of student release and transportation delays.

School leaders said parents should plan for possible dismissal delays caused by afternoon thunderstorms.

Severe weather, including lightning within six miles of a school campus, may cause a student dismissal delay until the weather clears.

There may also be bus transportation delays if students are kept inside over safety concerns.

Seminole and Volusia counties has also canceled any outdoor student activities for Thursday afternoon.
