Tiger Bay State Forest wildfire grows to 1,600 acres

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A wildfire in Tiger Bay State Forest is impacting visibility in parts of Volusia County.

7:30 a.m. Monday Update:

State forestry officials estimate that the size of the wildfire is 1600 acres and said the fire was 75% contained Monday morning.

Officials remind motorists who see smoke on the roadway to slow down and use caution.

9:30 p.m. Update:

According to the Florida Fire Service, the Double Gate fire has grown to 1,200 acres and containment is still at 20%.

6:30 p.m. Update:

Fire officials said the fire is now 20%, and the forest will remain closed.

5:15 p.m. Update:

According to a tweet from the Florida Forest Service Bunnell, Tiger Bay State Forest is now closed for the safety of visitors and firefighters.

The fire is now estimated to be at 750 acres.

The Florida Fire Service Bunnell said wildland firefighters are working the fire that is 0% contained.

As of 3:37 p.m., FFS Bunnell said no structures are in danger, according to a social media post.

Meteorologist George Waldenberger said drivers should monitor smoke on the roadways this evening and Monday morning.
