Burn ban remains in effect in Seminole County

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Seminole County officials want to remind the public that the burn ban is still in effect and will continue throughout the weekend.

The Seminole County Fire Department’s brush fire level remains at “Elevated” until the cancelation of the burn ban.

On Saturday, firefighters battled a small brush fire on Vista Oak Drive in Longwood around 6:45 a.m.

No injuries or damage were reported.

Bonfires, campfires, and the burning of vegetative (yard) debris are not allowed at this time.

County officials have assigned personnel to operate three Woods Trucks throughout the weekend from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

These trucks have specialized tools and equipment to help firefighters create fire line breaks to stop fires from growing.

Trucks will be located in the Sanford/Paola area, Geneva and Chuluota.

Also, water tankers, which hold thousands of gallons of water, are stationed throughout the county.

Seminole County Fire Department firefighters participated in Wildland Firefighter training.

Incident commanders have been trained with the strategies and tactics that could help protect structures from fast-moving wildfires.
