New record: Brightline reaches 130 mph during test between Orlando, Cocoa

ORLANDO, Fla. — The new historic accomplishment happened while Brightline conducted train testing along its new 35-mile rail corridor between Orlando International Airport and Cocoa.

Channel 9 spoke to Brightline officials about this new milestone.

Brightline said it broke its previous record of 110 miles per hour.

Brightline’s Bright Green 2 is now the fastest train in the southeastern United States.

The train sped down the new tracks built along the beachline expressway which is fenced and has no grade crossings to ensure safety.

“Our folks have worked so hard to get to this point,” said Katie Mitzner with Brightline. “This is really a continuation of a dream to connect South Florida and Central Florida with intercity passenger rail.”

That’s the goal. Once complete there will be 5 stations total along the route from Miami to Orlando International Airport.

Brightline will run a max speed of 125 mph with passengers aboard once fully operational between Orlando and Cocoa.
