BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — With the Atlantic hurricane season starting on June 1, Brevard county officials warn residents that now is the time to have a plan in place.
Central Florida residents know all too well that it is only a matter of time before they end up in the “cone of uncertainty.”

Brevard County has been fortunate in recent hurricane seasons and it has been years since the area has felt the direct impact of a storm.
A recent survey by AAA revealed a large number of people do not have an emergency plan for hurricane season and would ignore evacuation warnings.

Brevard County’s communications director Don Walker said that with the start of the Atlantic hurricane season this week, there is still a little time to prepare, but not much.

“We’re always concerned with complacency even when there’s a hurricane in the forecast and we’re in the cone of uncertainty. We worry about giving evacuation orders and not seeing the big rush of evacuees we anticipate,” Walker said.
Officials said that now is not a bad time to take stock of what supplies you may already have on hand, in anticipation of a potential storm.
