‘What a ride’: Axiom-1 becomes first all-private crewed mission to dock with ISS

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The four Axiom-1 astronauts who launched from the Kennedy Space Center on Friday arrived at the International Space Station on Saturday.

The SpaceX Endeavor spacecraft docked with the ISS around 8:30 a.m.

The docking was delayed about 45 minutes because of a video issue at the station.

The spacecraft traveled more than 20 hours before it arrived.

The Axiom-1 astronauts are part of the first all-private mission to the ISS.

“We had a pretty good night’s sleep last night after launching yesterday,” said Axiom-1 astronaut Michael López-Alegría. “For us, it’s very exciting obviously, what a ride. I think there were smiles that are still being worn by the crew this morning.”

NASA provided a video of the astronauts celebrating their arrival with the crew at the ISS.

The Axiom-1 team will spend eight days in low-Earth orbit, conducting more than two-dozen scientific experiments and technology demonstrations.
