BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A tiny antelope joined the crew at the Brevard Zoo this month.

Born at just 27.5 ounces, zoo officials said the little klipspringer calf arrived on April 15.

The little one, who zoo officials said doesn’t have a name yet, will spend the next few weeks behind the scenes bonding with his mother before he’ll be viewable to visitors.

He is the ninth klipspringer to be born at the zoo. The zoo said the animals live in rocky areas of sub-Saharan Africa, where they are known for their sure-footedness. The species does not face any major threats but is sometimes hunted by humans for its meat and hide.

The zoo said the species of antelope typically gives birth to one calf at a time, which will weigh between 18 and 40 pounds as a full-grown adult.
