NASA safety panel looking over plans to deorbit the International Space Station

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. — A NASA safety advisory panel wants to come up with a robust plan to deorbit the International Space Station.

NASA leaders have proposed extending the life of the ISS to 2030.

The extension has renewed calls from some for a well-defined plan for safely bringing the space station down from orbit.

The panel also is concerned about the area in orbit around the space station that is becoming more crowded with space debris and satellites each year.

The agency did note that discussions are ongoing between NASA and the Russian Space Agency to make the controlled deorbit plan more robust.
