BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Merritt Island High School football team will be quarantined as a result of a positive COVID-19 test, Brevard Public Schools announced Monday evening.
The decision was made after consultation with the Brevard Department of Health.

As a result, the team will forfeit their next two scheduled games on Oct. 23 and Oct. 30, the district said. The team is scheduled to resume play on Nov. 6.
During the quarantine, students will continue with their classes via e-learning, the district said.
The Department of Health has notified all staff and families of students athletes who were in close contact with the person who tested positive and has requested they quarantine for 14 days.

Areas where the football team congregated will undergo deep cleaning and sanitizing, the district said.
