A prominent Space Coast manufacturer will lay off more than 100 employees due to the pandemic.
Merritt Island Boat Works Inc. will eliminate 103 positions at its Brevard County facility, according to a July 7 Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter filed with the state. The layoffs follow financial challenges and a temporary plant shutdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19 among the workforce, according to the letter.
Jobs eliminated
The layoffs all will happen this year, taking place in phases on Sept. 8, Oct. 9 and between Dec. 4-31.
The reduction affects a variety of roles, including 10 technician positions, 20 assembler positions and a dozen team leaders. Positions similar to those pay average annual wages ranging between $30,000-$55,000 in Orlando, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
