The attack happened inside the home on June 10 after a couple were awoken by their dog scratching on their door.

A woman walked into her sleeping son’s room to check on him, when Putty jumped out of a closet and attacked her with a blacksmith’s hammer.

She was knocked unconscious and the man inside the home came into the room and was also attacked by Putty.

The man was able to wrestle the hammer away from Putty, who then ran off after taking the woman’s purse on his way out.

Palm Bay police obtained a warrant for Putty’s arrest and he was captured in Georgia two days later.

Putty has a lengthy criminal history that includes prior burglary, theft, stalking and domestic violence.
