A man is in custody after troopers said he struck and killed a pedestrian with his vehicle early Wednesday morning.
Officials with the Florida Highway Patrol were called out to the area of Friday Road and Baggett Place in west Cocoa just before 4:30 a.m. in reference to a hit-and-run.
Upon arrival, officials found 38-year-old Jason Strandberg deceased. Car parts of a Nissan were also at the scene, according to troopers.
Officials were later advised that 48-year-old Eric Ferguson called 911 and reported that he had struck someone. A trooper responded to Ferguson’s location and observed front-end damage to an Infiniti that was parked on the shoulder of the roadway, according to an arrest report. Blood was also observed on the vehicle, according to officials.
Ferguson faces a felony hit-and-run charge. He was transported to the Brevard County Jail around 8:45 a.m.
