COCOA, Fla. — For one local Marine Corps veteran, homeownership is no longer a dream deferred.

It is all being made possible thanks to the work of Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County and its partners.

“We’re fired up and ready to go,” said Cocoa Mayor Michael Blake. “This is what true red-blooded Americans will do.”
Waterman moved into her new Habitat for Humanity home with her canine friend, Flicka, Friday.
It is one of six homes being built for women veterans on Whaley Street in Cocoa’s Diamond Square community.
“The feeling is beyond words,” Waterman said. “I feel blessed. I feel honored. The community initiative of Brevard and Habitat to honor veterans, not just myself this whole block is for veterans.”

Each of the six lots for the female veterans’ village were donated to Habitat for Humanity of Brevard by the City of Cocoa and the Diamond Square community redevelopment agency.
