MELBOURNE, Fla. — Health First Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne is making sure the staff is ready for a possible active shooting.

The hospital released video this week of part of its simulated active shooter drills.

The drill is the first of five to practice necessary procedures and response tactics.

Training for staff will continue over the next four weeks.

“The more real we can make this kind of situation, the better off our staff will be in protecting themselves and our patients,” said Brett Esrock, CEO of the hospital division with Health First.
The hospital also held a drill in 2019.

Officials said it could become a regular practice.
