BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — They may look tiny and naked now, but two baby chicks hatched at Brevard Zoo will someday grow to sport a plumage famed for its vibrant coloring.
The zoo said it hatched its first two galahs last month. The birds are members of the cockatoo family native to Australia, famed for their vibrant pink feathers.

Zoo officials said the eggs were placed in a climate-controlled incubator weeks prior because the chicks’ parents had not successfully hatched out young in the past.
The chicks, who have not yet been named or sexed, are syringe-fed a specialized parrot formula nine times throughout the day.

The zoo said the babies will stay behind the scenes for at least a few weeks, then move to a public-facing habitat with the rest of the zoo’s galah flock.
