Florida’s Space Coast sees biggest month ever for tourist tax collections

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The number of space launches is soaring on Florida’s Space Coast.

The Space Coast Office of Tourism said it’s seeing another increase – in tourism.

The office just saw its best month ever for tourist development tax collections.

Brevard County is now gearing up for a record-breaking summer.

The executive director for the Space Coast Office of Tourism said the reason is an increased demand for travel.

“We wanted to go somewhere close to the beach, close to the water and we like the Orlando area,” said visitor Chris Taylor. “And its’s easy to get to different parts of the state.”

Joanna and Chris Taylor are from Texas. They chose to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in Central Florida.

“I think everybody is kind of tired and wants to get out, and Florida has been really open,” said Joanna Taylor. “That’s another reason we chose it. It’s kind of like Texas.”

The Space Coast Office of Tourism said Brevard County is benefiting from all that travel demand.

Hotels and vacation rentals make up the majority of the tourist development tax collections that added up to nearly $2.8 million in March alone.
