BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Rockledge family is remembering a 28-year-old man who died of COVID-19 by trying to save another life.
Their church has organized a vaccine and testing event in memory of Marquis Davis, and the event will be underway during his wake and funeral.
“To see someone that young lose their life, it was devastating for his family, devastating for our community, to see a 28-year-old pass away from COVID-19,” said Dr. R. Shaun Ferguson, pastor for Faith Temple Christian Center.

Davis was a husband, father and a business owner. His family said he was also unvaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.
“He was in the hospital. He said, ‘Bae, I’m going to get the vaccine when I get out of here,’” his wife Charnese Davis said. “So, he was going to get it. I was like ‘Good, I’m so happy you said that, but it’s too late.’
“Don’t wait too late,” Davis added. “Get it now, get it while you can.”

After speaking with their pastor, Davis’ wife decided her husband’s wake and memorial this weekend at Faith Temple Christian Center in Rockledge would be a perfect opportunity to vaccinate others in the community.
The church, located at 833 Ferndale Ave., is partnering with the state to offer the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines at Faith Temple’s administrative offices. COVID-19 testing will also be available.
Davis’ wake is Friday, and the vaccine and testing event will run from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., then on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
