Dozens of people fighting leads to deadly shooting in residential neighborhood, police say

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Titusville police are still working to identify a killer after a neighborhood fight erupted into gunfire yesterday.

On Sunday, police responded to the 500 block of Rock Pit Road for reports of an altercation and shots fired at around 1:30 p.m.

Police said when they arrived yesterday afternoon, nearly 30 people were arguing and fighting.

According to police, they also located a man lying on the ground dead from an apparent gunshot wound. He has been identified as 32-year-old Anthony Berry of Mims.

Titusville police told Channel 9 that multiple shots were fired during the altercation.

There were no other injuries, police said.

Police are still conducting interviews and running down active leads in the hope of making an arrest.

No suspect information has been released at this time; however, police said the shooting wasn’t a random act.

“Naturally, to be expected, everybody’s real torn up and surprised not expecting anything like that to happen anytime. They’re tired of the senseless killing,” said community activist Dwight Seigler. “Justice has to prevail. If not, it just becomes the wild, wild, west.”

Sunday’s shooting is Titusville’s first homicide of the year.
