Ultimately, deputies took force to defend themselves.
In a Facebook update, Sheriff Wayne Ivey said, “At one point, he said something to the effect of its game over and shared with one of our telecommunicators they were going to have to come inside and shoot him.”
Instead, around 3:45 am, the sheriff’s office says the suspect came out of his residence holding a gun, which he then pointed at deputies.
One of them shot the suspect.

Ivey commented, “In this case, he got exactly what he wanted. He put our deputies in harm’s way, and they were forced to take action.”

Per policy, one deputy is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation. The sheriff’s office has not identified the suspect.
