Boeing’s Starliner returns to Florida’s Space Coast

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft is back on Florida’s Space Coast.

The astronauts who will fly on the Starliner’s first crewed mission believe if they were aboard the spacecraft, they could have made the correction needed to reach the space station.

NASA and Boeing are in the process of establishing a joint, independent investigation team to examine the primary issues associated with the spacecraft’s uncrewed orbital flight test.

A problem with a mission elapsed timer prevented the Starliner from rendezvousing and docking with the International Space Station.

Boeing and SpaceX are working toward restoring NASA’s capability to launch U.S. astronauts from U.S. soil.

The return of the Starliner gives Boeing and NASA an exhaustive amount of data to review.

“Part of the investigation will determine; did we accomplish enough that we think it’s safe enough to put a crew aboard the next Boeing Starliner spacecraft?” said Kyle Herring.

The team tasked with determining the root cause of the mission timer issue and any other software issues will also provide recommendations.

Investigation is targeted to last about two months.
