PLAM BAY, Fla. — A bicyclist suffered serious injuries Friday night after a crash involving an on-duty Palm Bay police officer, authorities said.
The crash happened shortly before 9 p.m. Friday on Palm Bay Road near Arlington Lane, according to the Palm Bay Police Department.
Police said the adult male bicyclist was seriously hurt. The officer was not injured.
Palm Bay police requested that the Florida Highway Patrol investigate the crash. Although the investigation is ongoing, initial details suggest the bicyclist was riding against traffic and suddenly swerved into the roadway, moving in front of the patrol vehicle.
Police stated that a witness confirmed the initial account.
