Behavioral health facility employee fatally shot in Melbourne, suspect in custody, police say

MELBOURNE, Fla. — 11:18 p.m. update: Police said the man who was shot inside the mental health facility has died.

Investigators say Robert Quackenbush walked into the Circles of Care facility and shot Travis Knight, an employee at the facility.

Investigators said Quackenbush received treatment at the facility, but it’s not clear why he shot Knight.

Quackenbush didn’t get far as he was held for police after the shooting.

A suspect is in custody after a person was shot outside the Circles of Care in Melbourne Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Melbourne police responded to the scene for reports of a shooting outside the behavioral health facility, located on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near West NASA Boulevard.

It is believed the suspect and victim, who is a male, know each other, police said.
