Brevard County officials call for more training after second allegation of inappropriate behavior

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — For the second time in as many weeks, Brevard County is investigating an allegation of inappropriate behavior involving a Brevard County Fire Rescue employee.

A paramedic is accused of telling a gunshot victim that police decided to shoot him in a particular location on his body because of his ethnicity. The paramedic is now on light duty.

The first incident involved a Halloween photo appearing to show a veteran firefighter in blackface posted to social media. The caption read: “Denzel Washington and O.J. Simpson showed up to our party.” The county is still reviewing the incident.

On Tuesday, Commissioner Bryan Lober raised concerns about the possible need for additional training after he was made aware of the second incident involving an African-American firefighter and paramedic accused of making racially insensitive remarks to a gunshot victim.
