Officers around 4:15 p.m. responded to the outside of the Melbourne Police Department, where the road rage incident ended. A man, later identified as John Warren Parish, was sitting in a red, gold and black GMC truck in front of a gray Nissan occupied by the Uber driver and a Heather Anne Sevin, Parish’s girlfriend of four years.

Sevin told police that Parish was following her in the vehicle and wouldn’t leave her alone, according to the arrest affidavit. She said she and Parish were arguing all morning at their residence before it turned physical, and that she ordered the Uber to go to her mother’s house with all her belongings.

Parish allegedly grabbed Sevin by her ponytail, pulling her head backwards and threatened her with a hammer, yelling he wanted to kill her, the affidavit states.

Parish also allegedly chased her down and sprayed her on the right side of her face, her ear and her eyes with a can of spray paint, according to the arrest affidavit.

Parish told police he and Sevin had argued, but that nothing physical happened between them, and that he followed Sevin in the vehicle thinking she was in a drug dealer’s car and wasn’t aware it was an Uber.
