BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A man and his dog were killed in a crash along U.S. 1 in Brevard County early Monday morning.
Troopers said the 38-year-old man from Cocoa was riding his bicycle holding the leash of his small dog when the dog ran into the roadway, pulling the man on his bike with it. Troopers said the man had been biking north on the southbound paved shoulder.

Troopers said the bicyclist and the dog ended up in the right-hand lane of U.S. 1 near Spring Street, directly in the path of a Ford pickup truck.
Troopers said the man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died, and the dog died on the scene.

Investigators said the driver of the truck remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The crash remains under investigation.
