Bicyclist, 80, dies after crash involving golf cart in The Villages

THE VILLAGES, Fla. — An 80-year-old bicyclist died Friday morning after troopers said the driver of a golf cart turned in front of him in The Villages.

Troopers said the golf cart driver, a 69-year-old woman from Rochester, New York, told them she couldn’t see the bicyclist due to the early morning sun.

Investigators said the golf cart driver was making a left on Ichabod Way in The Villages from Hillsborough Trial when she turned directly into the path of the bicyclist.

Troopers said the 80-year-old man, who lived in The Villages and was wearing a helmet, was thrown off his bike and suffered serious injuries. He later died at a nearby hospital.
