Bears create buzz in Seminole County neighborhood

SANFORD, Fla. — A family of bears has become the talk of one Seminole County neighborhood.

Residents in Sanford’s Bookertown community alerted Eyewitness News to the mama bear and her two bear cubs relaxing up in a tree Monday.

The trio climbed the large tree along Gilbert Street, apparently after a busy morning of rummaging through garbage cans to enjoy some scraps.

One homeowner said she became suspicious when she noticed a trail of trash under the tree.

“When I was pulling the trash can out near the road for the garbage people to pick up, I heard a growl and I looked up and there was mama and her two cubs up the tree.”

Wildlife experts said they had no immediate plans to intervene and that the bears would climb down on their own when ready.
