ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A paving project has improved the look of streets in Avalon Park
“It looks great. Feels good on the car. Good on the tires. I think it was long overdue,” said resident Kenny Ragland.
However, some residents said a minivan is throwing a wrench into plans along the street near the downtown area.
Ragland said every Avalon Park resident was notified to move their vehicles when the project began seven days ago.
“I remember they were all on our side of the block and on that side of the block as well, knocking on each and every door,” Ragland said.
But what Ragland and many other residents are not pleased to see is the minivan, whose owner either didn't get the message or ignored it.
Pavers were forced to go around it.
“I'm surprised it's still sitting here. Again, I drive on this road all the time, every day, and I've never seen this,” Ragland said.
The only notice Channel 9 found on the vehicle was from the paving company, left some time before Nov. 28. The notice said police will remove the car if an owner can't be located.
But the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said no laws are being broken if the vehicle isn't stolen or illegally parked.
Public works said when the tags on the minivan expire, the contractor can request a tow, unless the owner is found.
“They still need to finish this. I mean, it makes the whole road look bad,” Ragland said.
Public works said one of its administrators will be contacting the homeowners’ association to see if that speeds things along.
