Austin Duran death: Apopka City Council votes to remove Fire Chief Sean Wylam

APOPKA, Fla. — The Apopka City Council passed a vote of “no confidence” in its fire chief.

“I think there’s more than enough, we’ve talked ad nauseum on this topic, it’s time to hire new leadership in the department and move on,” said Apopka City Commissioner Kyle Becker.

Commissioners voted 3-to-2 Wednesday night on the measure against Chief Sean Wylam.

They acknowledged concerns from firefighters over safety, in the wake of Austin Duran’s on-the-job death last year.

Commissioners also voted to fire city attorney Michael Rodriguez, calling him “unprofessional” after butting heads with several members of the board.
