WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — Seminole County leaders want to know if the city of Winter Springs misspent millions of tax payer dollars.

The state recently launched an operational audit of the city’s finances after complaints from residents.

Now, the county wants to look at how the city spent $19 million in penny tax money that is supposed to go to infrastructure improvements.
A bridge on Northern Way that recently reopened after it failed during Hurricane Ian is one of the projects the county gave $1 million in penny tax to. Commissioners want to make sure the city used the money for that purpose.
