The city of Altamonte Springs wants to build a tunnel under State Road 436 at the corner of Essex, Channel 9's .Racquel Asa found out.
The idea behind the tunnel is so that drivers would not have to wait for people to cross the street, city officials said on Monday.
Frank Martz, a city official with Altamonte Springs told Eyewitness News that building a tunnel would be cheaper because a pedestrian bridge over State Road 436 would require ramps to make it handicap accessible.
“We already own land on the other side so we can make a walking trail on the other end of this,” Martz said.
