DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A Daytona Beach man is in hospital after he was bitten on the leg by an alligator, police said.

Officers responded to Champions Drive in Dayton Beach around 9:42 p.m. on Saturday after getting a call that a resident was bitten by an alligator that was lurking outside his front door.

Police said the resident heard a noise outside his front door and believing it was someone looking for his son, he opened the door.

The alligator lunged and bit the man in the upper thigh.

The resident was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to a news release, officers located the animal near the front entrance to the residence and FWC responded to the scene where they called a trapper, who euthanized the alligator.
