SANFORD, Fla. — Some flights at Orlando-Sanford International Airport were canceled or rescheduled because Allegiant Air is inspecting some of its planes.
WFTV found out Friday that the cancellations and delays could last a few days.
WFTV spoke with a couple that rented a car to drive to Tennessee due to the cancellations and delays.
Some travelers were told to come back as early as 5 a.m. to try to get onto a flight Friday, but earlier in the morning they were told their flights to Tennessee and Missouri were canceled. Other departures are delayed.
Allegiant said it had to pull as many as 30 of its MD-80 planes out of circulation for inspection. Its said there were possible compliance issues with the planes' slides. It's not been able to give a concrete timeframe for when they'll be back in rotation or when it'll stop canceling or delaying flights.
Passengers said they were frustrated.
"My mom had to cancel rental cars, hotels, so it's not as simple as we'll just get you on a flight tomorrow. We're having to make all sorts of arrangements. It's kind of aggravating," said passenger Sherri Pierce.
Some of the stranded travelers were getting onto a shuttle to head to the hotel that Allegiant offered to put them in for the night.
They were also offered $100 vouchers for future flights.
