Covid-19 hasn't stopped the Central Florida commuter rail service, but things haven't been busy.
Metro Orlando's SunRail train system — owned by the Florida Department of Transportation — has seen ridership drastically drop since the pandemic hit in mid-March. However, it appears the reopening of the state is helping the service pick up steam.
SunRail in April reached 21,398 boardings and increased to 45,998 in June, said a report prepared for the July 15 meeting of SunRail's technical advisory committee. That's a 114% increase in ridership from April, when some Central Florida counties enacted stay-at-home orders.
While that appears promising, there’s still a lot of ground for SunRail to cover to get back up to speed.
