Trial date set for man accused of killing Daytona Beach police officer

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A man accused of killing a Daytona Beach police officer more than two years ago appeared in court on Friday.

Police say Othal Wallace shot Officer Jason Raynor while he was investigating an incident near Kingston Avenue in June 2021.

Officer Raynor died several weeks later.

The judge said Friday that he’s ready to get the trial started.

During the hearing, the judge allowed most of the evidence proposed to be used in the trial.

The trial is expected to start on Sept. 5 in Clay County. The judge hopes to have a jury ready to go to start the trial by Sept 8.

The judge heard several motions, most of them from Wallace’s defense team.
