Abandoned Orlando I-Drive hotel fire deemed suspicious

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Fire Department responded to an abandoned hotel fire at around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they saw heavy smoke coming from the old hotel.

Firefighters believe there may have been as many as 15 people in the abandoned hotel at the time.

OFD said it removed four people from the building, whom investigators believe to be squatters.

After a complete search of the property, it was determined no one else was still inside.

Orlando arson investigators are determining what caused the fire, as there was no power to the building.

Orlando code enforcement officials will visit the property Thursday morning to follow up on the condition and safety of the structure.
