PINE HILLS, Fla. — Sixteen-year-old former St. Andrews Catholic School student Marcus Millen will get to meet President Donald Trump Friday when he stops in Orlando to visit the school.
He sees it as the chance of a lifetime.
“Not many people can say that they’ve met the president, so this is an opportunity that not many people get,” he said.
Marcus’ mother, though, voted for Hillary Clinton in the November election, and was invited to join her son when he meets Trump.
While she is thrilled for her son, Myrna Sainte-Juste declined the offer.
“As an immigrant, a lot of (Trump’s) ideas I don’t share,” she said. “So, I don’t feel comfortable with that situation.”
Sainte-Juste said she disapproves of almost everything about Trump, but Marcus wasn’t focusing on the politics of the situation.
He wanted to tell Trump how important schools like St. Andrews Catholic School are to communities like Pine Hills.
“They just helped to make me as the person that I am today, and I thank them for that,” he said.
When Channel 9 reached out to school administrators for comment on the president’s visit, they said the White House instructed them not to speak to the media.
A request for comment from the White House as to why was not returned.
