Deputies identify 78-year-old Volusia County man accused of killing neighbor who was trimming trees

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting between neighbors in DeLeon Springs.

9:45 a.m. update:

Volusia County deputies have identified 78-year-old Edward S. Druzolowski as the man who allegedly shot and killed his neighbor who was trimming trees near their property line.

Deputies said Druzolowski was arrested and is charged with second-degree murder.

The man who was shot and killed by Druzolowski was 42-year-old Brian J. Ford, deputies said.

Deputies said Ford was trimming tree limbs along the fence line when Druzolowski confronted him about being on his property.

According to a report, Druzolowski told detectives he threatened to shoot Ford, and when Ford didn’t leave, he shot him.

First responders arrived on the property around 7:13 p.m. Sunday and Ford was pronounced dead after paramedics attempted to revive him.

Investigators said the initial investigation indicates the victim, a 42-year-old man, was trimming trees over his property line when his neighbor came outside and fired a shot that struck and killed him.

The shooter, a 78-year-old man, is being interviewed by detectives.

The case remains active, and charges are pending further investigation, according to deputies.
