DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. — Daytona Beach Shores police said the man and woman identified from Publix Super Market surveillance footage as possibly being involved with an attack on a 75-year-old man have come forward.
Officers were looking for the pair after they said the 75-year-old man was attacked after he asked a woman to socially distance in line at Publix.
Police said the elderly man, who recently had heart surgery, was punched outside of the Publix Super Market on South Atlantic Avenue.
Surveillance video that Channel 9 obtained from inside the store Sunday shows the man checking out.
He said he’d just had a stint put in following heart surgery and was worried that a woman seen in the video wearing white was too close and asked her to back up.
In the parking lot, the man said he was approached by a man he believes was about 35 years old. He said the man called him a “gator red neck” and threatened to kill him after punching him in the chest and knocking him to the ground.

Police said the younger man then got into an older model, dark-colored Cadillac where the woman from earlier was sitting in the passenger seat, and they drove off.
Officers said the pair are cooperating with the investigation and no arrests have been made. Police said they are still asking anyone who may have seen in the incident to come forward.
