75-year-old man killed after car flips in Volusia County crash, driver seriously injured

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — An investigation is underway in Volusia County after a car overturned killing the passenger and leaving the driver seriously injured.

The crash happened Saturday around 9:10 p.m. on U.S. Highway 1 near the intersection of Benton Street.

Troopers said a Toyota Camry was entering the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 1 from the Racetrac, south of Benton Street.

Meanwhile, a Lincoln MKZ was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 1 when the driver of the Camry tried to cross the northbound lanes and reach the left turn lane causing the two vehicles to collide.

The impact caused the MKZ to overturn and land on its roof.

The 70-year-old female driver from Illinois was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The passenger, a 75-year-old man from Illinois was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the Camry were not injured and remained at the scene, troopers said.

This crash remains under investigation.
