The city of Ocoee is rewriting some of its rules as it plans for growth with an eye on avoiding pitfalls of past development — and it already has four transformative projects in the pipeline.

“There’s only so much land, so let’s make sure we’re developing that land as well as we can,” said Ginger Corless, Ocoee’s development services director and CRA administrator.

From its humble beginnings as a village around Starke Lake, the city in west Orange County grew by nearly 20% since 2014, hitting a population of just under 50,000 in 2023, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
