ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Investigators are still trying to figure out why the ground collapsed at an Orange County business Wednesday morning.

Two large holes opened and swallowed more than a half-dozen vehicles.

Dump trucks and construction vehicles would park on the property when they weren't in use.

Video from Skywitness 9 shows the holes are so wide that some vehicles ended up underneath others.

“This is something that took everybody by surprise,” said Maria Ferrer, a wife of a truck owner. “It was very sad. You get depressed. A lot of damage done. This is the way friends support their families. It's just hard.”

At least seven trucks were seen in the ground, but a man who works at a nearby trucking and recycling property says it's more like nine.

The property owner said a security guard found two holes just before 1 a.m.

The vehicles were parked along an unpaved path between two ponds, and a trucking business owner believes work on a neighboring retention pond may have played a role in the incident.

The state's Department of Environmental Protection is now trying to figure out what happened and whether there are any environmental concerns from fuel.

Officials said these are manmade bodies of water and there's no danger to surface-level waters.

Crews are now waiting for the ground to settle so they can remove the trucks, but it’s unclear how long it will take.

Officials said no one was injured in the collapse.
