OCALA, Fla. — A 2-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after she was shot by a sibling in Ocala, police said.

The family said the shooting was an accident, but Ocala police will “still go through all the proper procedures of investigating this, as we would any other shooting,” police spokeswoman Angie Scroble said.

Around 12:45 p.m. Friday, officers said they responded to a shooting call in the 3000 block of NE 21st Street.

Police said the toddler is in stable condition and is expected to survive.

“They’re of course keeping an eye on her. She is only 2 years old,” Scroble said. “It appears at this time that the injury is not life-threatening.”

Police are also still investigating how the sibling had a gun. Officers were on the scene into the late evening.
