1 dead, 1 hurt in apparent ‘self-defense’ shooting at Lake Mary condo complex, deputies say

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A man and a woman were shot inside an apartment complex in Lake Mary early Sunday morning, the Seminole County Sheriff’s office said.

SCSO said the man later died and the woman is expected to recover.

But investigators said they are working with the State Attorney’s Office and have not charged the shooter because they believe this was a case of self-defense.

The incident happened at the Notting Hill Condominiums on Villa Di Este Terrace, south of Lake Mary Boulevard.

Officers were called to the scene around 2 a.m. Sunday, for reports of shots fired.

When they arrived, they located the two patients.

Investigators said the shooter told detectives he had been involved in a argument with a man inside a residence at the complex and when he tried to leave, the man followed him to his vehicle and attacked him.

According to investigators, he feared for his safety, retrieved a firearm, and shot the other man.

The man —who deputies said they found in a parking lot — suffered life-threatening injuries and later died at a hospital.

Investigators said the woman, who was shot in the hand while trying to break up the fight, is expected to recover.
