KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A man is dead after two people were shot outside a popular restaurant in Kissimmee late Sunday night, police said.
Investigators said the shooting happenedaround 9:30 p.m. outside El Cibuco restaurant on Fortune Road.
"We thought it was just like fireworks," said Miguel Cruz, who lives behind the restaurant.
According to Kissimmee police, a 24-year-old man was killed and a 30-year-old woman was shot. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
A sign posted at the restaurant says that anyone under the age of 21 is not allowed inside after 11 p.m.
Detectives said they are treating the incident as a homicide and are interviewing the female victim and witnesses. It's unclear what led up to the shooting, police said.
Cruz said he's lived in the area for 15 years and thinks there could be a bigger police presence.
"If there was more police, I am assuming this wouldn't have happened," Cruz said.
The restaurant owner told Channel 9 that he's been open for more than two years and has never experienced this kind of violence.
The names of the victims have not been released. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Kissimmee police.
