NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — Two people were injured in two different lightning strikes in New Smyrna Beach Tuesday afternoon.

New Smyrna Beach Fire Crews responded with Volusia County Fire Services and Volusia County EMS for a lighting strike to a person at a home on Middlebury Loop.

According to the fire department, the victim had no pulse and was not breathing when first-responders arrived on scene but they were able to revive them and regain a pulse.
The victim was taken to Halifax Medical Center in critical condition.

According to the fire department, a second person working at an Auto Zone on State Road 44 was hit by an “indirect” lighting strike later Tuesday afternoon.
That person was taken to AdventHealth in New Smyrna Beach to be treated for minor injuries.

According to Volusia County Beach safety, summer is the most dangerous season for lighting strikes with most lightning fatalities occurring in the months of June, July and August.
