2 injured after motorcyclist crashes into abandoned car on I-95, troopers say

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — Two people were hospitalized after a crash in Flagler County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the crash happened around 4:15 a.m. Saturday.

According to a news release, a motorcycle was traveling northbound on Interstate 95. Witnesses said the car was driving recklessly before the crash happened.

Investigators said the motorcycle was passing traffic on the right shoulder, hit an abandoned car and the pieces broke off into the lanes.

An SUV was traveling northbound and ran over the debris, causing it to overturn and stopped in the center of I-95. A second SUV was traveling southbound and also hit the debris, ran off the roadway and caught on fire.

FHP said all of the lanes were shut down because of the crashes and debris, but have reopened.

The motorcyclist, a 27-year-old man, was transported to Halifax Hospital in Daytona with serious injuries.

The 26-year-old driver of the second SUV was transported to Advent Health Palm Coast with minor injuries.

Officials said the crash is under investigation.
